Filling Out a Medical Form

Preparedness Services

As a result of the tragic events of September 11, 2001, our agency has had to become more aware of and better prepared for disaster response in any type of situation (Natural, Terrorist, Chemical).

Partnerships & Planning:
On the local level, our Health Departments have been directed by the West Virginia State Health Department to plan for response to all hazards, and to integrate the response with that of local Office of Emergency Services (OES), Law Enforcement, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and Local Emergency Planning Committees (LEPC).  The Berkeley-Morgan County Board of Health maintains our own internal All-Hazards Plan (AHP) as well as an Emergency Action Plan (EAP) for our Health Departments.

In addition, we maintain partnerships with our local Offices of Emergency Managment (OEM), both of our local LEPCs, as well as our Regional Health Care Coalition (HCC) and our Regional Eastern Public Health Response Team (EPHRT), along with many other local agencies and organizations to help ensure preparedness for our community and surrounding areas.  Our local community preparedness plans are trained on, drilled on and put into action, alongside those of our partnering agencies, as needed.

Volunteering:
A Medical Volunteer Corp has been formed, composed primarily of medically trained people in our area.  Any interested persons with skills in the medical field would be welcome to participate in this process.  We also welcome those with clerical skills and those interested in assisting with directing traffic at large scale events, etc.  Please check out the Medical Volunteer Corps Page or contact our Threat Preparedness Coordinator for more information.   304-263-5131, ext. 8243

Medical Counter Measures:

A plan exists to procure medications and antidotes to be used to protect and treat citizens against various types of bioterrorism agents.  The local Health Department will play a significant role should such response become necessary.

Community Preparedness:
The Threat Preparedness program for our Berkeley and Morgan County Health Departments would like to provide you with some community preparedness resources and tools that will help you to be prepared before an emergency or disaster strikes.

Make a plan, build a kit, BE READY!!   Preparedness is the key!
