Checklist for Septic System Permits



STEP 1: Survey plat “to scale” showing all of the following which are applicable to your lot:

  • Lot boundaries
  • Septic system reserve area, with distance to the nearest property line, and, to include a sketch of septic system as it is to be installed (show contours)
  • House (building) location
  • Water well location
  • Neighboring wells within 200 feet of the reserve area
  • Driveways and parking areas
  • Outbuildings, swimming pools, or other proposed construction
  • Water lines, underground or overhead powerline rights-of-way
  • Surface features such as streams, ditches, stormwater management structures, downslope roadcuts, erosion gullies, or other irregularities which could interfere with septic system placement

  • STEP 2: Deed book and page number for subject property

    STEP 3: Tax Map and Parcel Number

    STEP 4 :DETAILED DIRECTIONS !! (including into the subdivision, we can’t carry all the plats with us !)

    STEP 5: Signature of OWNER, (not an “agent” for the owner

    STEP 6: Percolation test results shall be entered on the application (do not say, “see file”). If test results were done previously by others, as in the subdivision pre-approval process, a copy of these results must be attached. These should be provided to the applicant by the developer, builder, or seller of the property.

    Applications lacking any of the above information WILL be returned !!

    SITE PREPARATION FOR PERMIT APPLICATION:

    STEP 1: Reserve area corners to be staked in the precise originally approved location. A licensed surveyor must perform this task unless original stakes remain. Marker stakes must be obvious such that they are easily found and recognized !

    STEP 2: Property line adjacent to reserve area must also be clearly marked.

    STEP 3: House or building site must be staked.

    STEP 4: Well location or proposed location must be marked. Proposed well installation sites will be marked in originally approved locations.

    Lots lacking any of these stakeout requirements will not be reviewed for permits !!
