Ancillary Programs
Sanitarians or Health Inspectors are employees hired by a municipality, county or state, to enforce the state sanitation regulations dealing with food, water, sewage, housing and public health. They are employed to protect you.
Food service facilities rely on them to evaluate and inspect their facilities in order to keep the food safe and the public healthy.
Fairs, festivals, carnivals and special events are included in their public health programs. Disease investigations associated with food, water, and sewage are also initiated by sanitarians.
Individual wells and sewage systems are evaluated and inspected by Sanitarians according to the state and federal regulations. Protection of the groundwater is a top priority. A recent USGS study of Berkeley County's groundwater reported 62% of the individual water wells tested in the karst geology were contaminated with coliform bacteria.
